THE WAITING PLACE - INDEPENDENT SHORT FILM SOUND

Working with Kabir on my short film, THE WAITING PLACE, was an absolute joy. Not only was our communication effortless, but I was lucky enough to be able to describe sounds in my head that he would then design for the film. Constantly open to challenging his own decisions, Kabir would push his own envelope and I was privy to his creative process which bore the seeds of a perfectionist. The film was shown at 9 festivals across the world and won a few awards. And I have to say, that as soon as I told Kabir that the sound design in this film was a character itself, he knew that in a sense he was co-writing the film with sound.

Set in a mystical village in the desert, The Waiting Place is a barren, Orwellian landscape of uniformity and blandness. There, two young children catch each others attention and go on adventure to discover colour, music and magic.

In 2018, The Waiting Place won the Film of the Month at the Top Shorts Festival
